Construction of Training Center
The goal in setting up a Training Center (Centro de Capacitación) is to provide
a permanent location where the association can organize classes, courses and
workshops to train young people and adults.
The focus will be on teaching the basic techniques of editing and broadcasting
radio programs to young people, as well as the newest techniques of recording
and operating to experienced editors and broadcasters who want to improve
the quality of their programs.
Other subjects will also be taught in the center to enrich the knowledge of
participants and to enhance the contents of the radio programs.
With help of local and international volunteers, language and computer classes
will also be organized for surrounding communities. All these courses will have
participation fees associated with them and with this income; they will be able
to run the association and become auto-financed.
A small museum about the Voz Popular (guerilla radio during the civil war) will
be set up in the same building. The building will also be the home to the
community radio station Doble Via.
With the donation of Mariposa Association, Constru Casa Association, CasaSito,
associated community radios of MJBY and volunteers, we have been able to buy
the land for the building, located in the district of San Mateo in Quetzaltenango
and we've started the construction of Phase 1.
